Sea Cucumber is emerging as a new and valuable aid in veterinarian medicine as a "natural alternative" to treatments that can cause dangerous side effects.

Sea Cucumber, also known as "Beche-de-Mer" are seabed dwelling marine animals that are relatives of the starfish and sea urchins, which feeds on

microscopic algae, absorbing nutrients from the organic matter.

The Sea Cucumber has been used in China for thousands of years as a

treatment for arthritis. Research has confirmed it is beneficial for various

inflammatory conditions of the musculoskeletal system, including

osteoarthritis  and rheumatoid arthritis .

The Sea Cucumber has shown an ability  to balance prostaglandins, which

regulate the inflammatory process.  It also contains  substances known as

chondrotin and mucopolysaccharides, which are often lacking in pets with

connective tissue  disorders  and arthritis.  These substances can help to

reduce inflammation, aid tissue repair and lubricate and cushion the joints.

The nutrient content of Sea Cucumber is extremely broad, also containing

protein, sodium, carbohydrates, minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron and zinc, and  vitamins A, C,  B1 (thiamine), B2 (riboflavin) and B3 (niacin).

How It Works

Holothurin, one of the principal biologically active

compounds unique to Sea Cucumber might benefit

sufferers due to it's nerve-blocking properties,

thus providing your pet with a "selective analgesic."

Dr. Lyman Wilson explains that "Sea Cucumber is

a rich source of mucopolysaccharides, which help

in the production of synovial fluid (the body's

natural shock absorber present in the joints).

Sea Cucumber also contains a more bioavailable form of chondroitin that is recognized as an

effective treatment for arthritis."

According to medical journalist, Morton Walker,

Sea Cucumber inhibits prostaglandins and leukotrienes, both of which may contribute

biochemically to inflammation and pain.

In experiments performed by R.F. Nigrelli and P.A. Zahl, holothurin demonstrated a pronounced anti-tumor effect.  "It has also been established by

researchers that Sea Cucumber, due to the many

different oligoglycosides naturally occurring, also possesses substantial anti-microbial activity
